About West Vancouver
West Vancouver offers a quality of life found nowhere else in British Columbia. Nestled below the North Shore Mountains and next to the City of North Vancouver, West Vancouver looks out across Howe Sound and English Bay towards Stanley Park. Between the snow-capped mountains and the amazing sunsets, West Vancouver is a true gem.
Minutes from every amenity, West Vancouver is connected to Downtown Vancouver via the Lions Gate Bridge. West Vancouver is mainly a residential district as many of the residents are retired, work from home or take the short commute to Downtown Vancouver. The ‘commercial’ district known as Ambleside, covers a 7 block area along Marine Drive between 13th and 19th Streets, features shops, small businesses, garages, gas stations, restaurants, banks and other common amenities. Further west along Marine Drive, between 24th and 25th Streets, is the area known as Dundarave which also features coffee shops, restaurants and unique shops. West Vancouver is also home to Canada’s first shopping mall – Park Royal Shopping Centre. Opened in the 1950’s, it now consumes 2km of both sides of Marine Drive and is home to several large and small retailers. The Village at Park Royal, recently added, is the perfect place to meet friends for coffee, lunch on the patio at the Cactus Club or a quick bite at Whole Foods.
Parks and Recreation
Ambleside Park and the Seawall are popular spots for families and outdoor enthusiasts as well as scenic Lighthouse Park at Point Atkinson which has incredible views of Downtown Vancouver and Georgia Straight. Whytecliff Park is regarded as one of the best scuba diving spots in Western Canada.
West Vancouver has several public recreation facilities including the new Recreation Centre, an 18-hole par 3 golf course, tennis courts and skateboard parks. West Vancouver is also home to Cypress Provincial Park for skiing, snowboarding, snow-shoeing and mountain biking. Cypress will also be one of the venues for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
